Virgin looks to the east

Virgin looks to the east Virgin Atlantic is looking to the Orient as it gets ready to add another daily service from London Heathrow Airport to Hong Kong.

The new service is intended to capitalise on increased passenger demand for travel to Hong Kong as well as provide links to other destinations in China.

Equally, the service will allow Virgin customers to use Hong Kong as a stop-over for further travel onto Sydney in Australia.

The daily route will come on line during early December 2008, although it will also run three times a week from October 29th.

When talking about the new service, Steve Ridgway, Virgin Atlantic chief executive, said that "East is the new West".

He pointed out that Hong Kong is Virgin Atlantic's third busiest route from London Heathrow after JFK Airport in New York and Dubai.

"Virgin Atlantic, which is highly committed to the city and the Pearl River Delta, has flown well over two million passengers on this route since we started flying in 1994 and it remains one of our most popular services."

"We offer a big thank you to the Hong Kong Airport authorities for helping to make this extra service a reality," he added.

This will run in addition to Virgin Atlantic's existing daily service from London Heathrow, and around 100 new cabin crew jobs will be created to service the route.

As one of world's leading long-haul carriers, Virgin currently operates services to over 30 destinations around the world, including Barbados, Los Angeles and Mumbai.
