Travel to the US for £8 with Ryanair

Travel to the US for £8 with Ryanair Low-cost carrier Ryanair has announced that it will start offering flights to the US for as little as £8, under ambitious new expansion plans.

Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary made this announcement today while revealing the carrier's quarterly results.

Speaking in an interview with the News of the World, Mr O'Leary said that economy class on the transatlantic service will be "very cheap" at around €10 (£8).

However, he added that this will be offset by the fact that "our business class will be very expensive".

"There's always ten to 15 per cent who'll pay whatever it costs for a wide seat... stuff like that," explained Mr O'Leary.

Business class services could cost as much as £4,000 which will include beds and private showers, as well as a limousine service to take passengers to the airport.

Ryanair is widely expected to acquire 50 additional aircraft to service these new routes which could include the purchase of Airbus' A380 superjumbo as well as Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner.

Mr O'Leary told the News of the World that "we're the perfect airline for the recession" and stated his belief that the carrier will turn a profit for the full year, as long as oil remains below $70 a barrel.

"We'll just have to keep flying more aircraft, opening up more routes and offering people more cheap flights," explained Mr O'Leary.

The new US service, which could start as early as the final quarter of next year, is expected to run from Ryanair's hubs at London Stansted and Dublin to Los Angeles, Florida, New York, Boston and San Francisco.
