SkyEurope reaches Luton milestone

SkyEurope reaches Luton milestone Eastern European airline SkyEurope recently marked having flown more than 250,000 passengers out of London in under ten months.

The carrier reached the milestone by operating regular services from London Luton Airport to Bratislava, Košice and Poprad in Slovakia, and Prague in the Czech Republic.

Equally, the operator was also recently named Eastern Europe's most popular low-cost operator at the Skytrax World Airline Awards.

Its popularity has been fuelled by a strong punctuality record, comfortable seats in its planes and cabin crew serving genuine espresso in-flight.

SkyEurope operates from a headquarters in the Slovakian capital of Bratislava and holds Europe's youngest fleet of 15 Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

The airline intends to grow this to 32 planes by 2011 as part of a steady expansion programme to build on its success.

Natalie Raper, Luton Airport's marketing director, said that "we are delighted to reach this significant milestone with SkyEurope and look forward to working closely with the airline for further passenger growth".

"With these successful destinations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia we continue to serve the requirements of both the business and leisure traveller," she added.

Over 100 million passengers use London Luton Airport each year which has increased by over 400 per cent in the past ten years and places it among the UK's largest airports.

Ryanair, easyJet, Monarch, Thomsonfly, Aer Arann, XL Airways, Flybe, Wizz Air and Thomas Cook all operate from the hub to destinations around the world.

The airport launched a Community Engagement Strategy in January 2008 to focus on improving the immediate area and contributing effectively to the local economy.
