Ryanair launches new routes

Ryanair launches new routes Ryanair has celebrated the establishment of its brand-new base at Birmingham Airport with the announcement of nine new routes starting in October this year.

The operator announced regular services to Alicante, Malaga, Fuerteventura, and Murcia in Spain, along with the Italian city of Palma.

Equally, Ryanair will fly to Derry in Northern Ireland, Katowice and Krakow in Poland, and Kaunas in Lithuania.

Bridget Dowling from Ryanair said that "by 2012, Ryanair will have aircraft based in Birmingham which will deliver five million passengers per annum sustaining 5,000 jobs".

"To celebrate the start of our new base and the announcement of nine new routes, Ryanair is offering 35,000 one-way seats from £5 on routes from Birmingham."

"This special offer must end Thursday midnight so we advise passengers to book their bargain seats today on ryanair.com," she added.

Ryanair has also announced three new routes from Shannon Airport in West Ireland to the Polish cities of Katowice, Lodz, and Gdansk beginning November 2008.

Ms Dowling said that "these three new routes to Gdansk, Katowice and Lodz will provide passengers in the Mid-West with even greater choice".

"The new services to Poland which will operate on a twice-weekly basis will deliver an additional 90,000 passengers per annum creating almost 100 jobs in the region," she added.

Birmingham International Airport represents Ryanair's 25th official base, with its biggest operational hub being London Stansted.

Established in 1985, the airline is presently Europe's largest low-cost carrier servicing 132 destinations with a fleet of 166 aircraft.
