Mexico a 'romantic' holiday destination for Brits

Mexico a romantic holiday destination for Brits More and more UK couples are heading to Mexico for a loved-up holiday in the sun, experts say.

Luxury Travel magazine editor Alyson Cook insists the South American country is slowly expanding its tourist base of US vacationers and becoming an increasingly popular destination for amorous Brits.

Honeymoons and romantic getaways are among the most popular holiday choices, thanks to an excellent choice of cutting-edge accommodation.

She says: "Mexico City has some hip hotels - Los Cabos and Baja California and on the central Pacific coast there's a property called Las Alamandas which the A-listers like."

However, Ms Cook adds a Mexican holiday can offer much more than simple indulgence and "staying in a hotel", pointing out the wide range of activity breaks also available.

Ideas include jungle walks, animal experiences and excursions to remote areas of cultural interest.

She says: "People want adventure and once in a lifetime experiences, so they will go to 'newer' destinations like Oaxaca, Querétaro and Chiapas… that appeal to the younger market who want to go for something slightly different."

Mexico has a population of 106.5 million according to UN figures released last year. This is spread over an area of 1.96 million sq km.
