KLM goes text happy

KLM goes text happy KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced a deal with mobile company End2End Connectivity to provide a text messaging service providing flight information.

Using Short Message Service (SMS) technology, KLM will now be able to deliver flight status notification (FSN) alerts quickly and easily to its customers.

Passengers must register at the KLM website to receive advance warning of any disruptions or up-to-date information on its flights.

End2End Connectivity will use a global mobile network with access to all major mobile operators to reach KLM customers.

Eventually, the system will also be able to give boarding alerts and gate changes to passengers waiting at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.

Jan Willem ten Kate, e-Development manager at KLM, said "We chose End2End Connectivity to benefit from the global SMS footprint reaching over 400 destinations and its high quality".

Alexander Schebler, vice president of sales at End2End Connectivity, said, "We are very pleased that KLM chose End2End as a reliable partner for international SMS delivery."

"The SMS flight status notification service from KLM is a great example that mobile messaging is the ideal way to provide time critical information directly to the handset anytime and anywhere."

Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij (KLM) Royal Dutch Airlines is the national airline carrier of The Netherlands.

It is the oldest airline in the world to be still operating under its original title and currently services 250 global destinations with a fleet of 115 aircraft.
