Hilton hotels expands as Paris hits prison

Hilton hotels expands as Paris hits prison In the same week that Paris Hilton hits the headlines with the start of her jail sentence, the Hilton group has announced a major new development, which will see 55 new hotels built by 2012.

The cost of the project will be $1.7 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal, with hotels planned in Russia, Britain and Central America.

Eleven major Russian cities will see the 25 new hotels planned for the country, including Moscow and St Petersburg.

London & Regional Properties will work with the Hiltons in Russia, investing $500 million of its own money and constructing hotels with the brand names Doubletree, Hilton Garden Inn and Conrad.

Developments in Britain and Ireland will go under the name of Hilton partner, Shiva Hotels, although Hilton will manage all of the finished facilities.

The Hilton empire already has around 2,800 hotels with 475,000 rooms in over 80 countries, grossing $8.162 billion in 2006, with $572 million in net profit.

Russian developments have always been on the cards since the Hilton group negotiated to manage the hotel on Neglinnaya Street in Moscow, which has now been rebranded as the Ararat Part Hyatt.

Caribbean Property Group, based in New York, will assist the Hilton hotel group in building facilities in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Panama, the Domincan Republic and Trinidad.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Hilton's president and chief operating officer, Matthew Hart, said: "We want to roll these [projects] out as quickly as we can."

Hilton already announced the development of 100 new hotels in India and China last year, as Mr Hart said his company's aim was to pick partners with deep pockets and a strong track record of local development.
