France has launched a high-speed rail link between its capital and a number of top European destinations.
The country has unveiled the new line, which will enable France's world-renowned high-speed TGV trains to connect Paris with cities across the continent, including cities in Germany, France and Switzerland.
President Jacques Chirac inaugurated the new line, which is anticipated to come into operational service on June 10th this year.
Once the new link is up and running, travellers to the continent will have the opportunity to get to important European cities such as Strasbourg, Zurich and Munich much faster.
"With this new line, France shows it is, and wants to, remain the world's top country for high speed rail," Mr Chirac announced.
Journey times will be significantly cut once the line comes into operation, providing a new option for travellers to the continent and should also give business travellers a much more convenient way of commuting across Europe for meetings.
