Extra Saudi routes for bmi

Extra Saudi routes for bmi Following bilateral talks between the Saudi Arabian and UK governments, British Midland Airways (bmi) intends to strengthen its routes to the Middle Eastern country.

As a direct result of the talks, the number of flights from the UK to Saudi Arabia will increase to 35 per week.

Presently, bmi operates a service from Heathrow Airport to Jeddah, Dammam, and the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

Nigel Turner, bmi chief executive, said that an announcement will follow shortly on the exact schedule for its increased services from Heathrow to Saudi Arabia.

Mr Turner congratulated both the UK and Saudi governments for "creating a more open market" that bmi is "well placed and eager to take full advantage of".

The airline took over the routes from British Airways in 2005 and Mr Turner indicated that it had now "amassed a considerable amount of experience and expertise" in the area.

He also pointed out that bmi has committed "significant investment" in developing an operational and sales presence in Saudi Arabia.

"Our route network to the region was further enhanced last October when we commenced services from Heathrow to a wide range of destinations throughout the Middle East and beyond."

"bmi now has a major presence in this part of the world with considerable experience and knowledge of serving these markets," he added.

Founded in 1964, bmi now services 51 destinations worldwide with a fleet of 54 aircraft including Airbus 319 and 320s.
