Eva Air's Elite Cabin scoops prestigious award

Eva Airs Elite Cabin scoops prestigious award EVA Air has celebrated its Elite Class service being awarded the best premium economy class cabin at the annual World Airline Awards.

The award was judged by the public after organiser Skytrax quizzed 15.5 million airline passengers hailing from 97 countries around the world.

Skytrax delivered the e-mail and telephone questionnaires over 11 months to gauge opinions on the best premium economy cabin on the market.

Passengers rated airlines on a number of categories, including cabin comfort, cleanliness, amenities and the quality of service from cabin crew.

Respondents were also quizzed about the in-flight safety information and procedures, catering and on-board shopping of over 170 different operators of commercial aircraft.

EVA's Elite Class was praised for offering each passenger an excellent 8.4-inch seat-back touchscreen entertainment system featuring audio and video-on-demand.

Passengers also prized the fully-adjustable Elite Class seats which feature widened arm and foot rests, and personal coat hooks.

Elite Class has also proved popular because it offers excellent cabin comfort while proving 25 per cent cheaper on average than many of its rivals.

Taiwanese carrier EVA Air was one of the first airlines on the market to launch a distinct premium economy cabin as a new layer between economy and business.

The Elite Class cabin was launched in 1992 on the maiden voyage of EVA's Boeing 777-300ER to America.

It included fully integrated and adjustable seat-back entertainment systems a significant time before these were used by other carriers.
