Edinburgh Airport gets new fast-track check-in
Ten new self-service kiosks have been installed at Edinburgh Airport that will hopefully increase frequency and speed of customer check-in, it has been announced.
This follows an investment of £300,000 by BAA, owner of Edinburgh Airport, to enable passengers to prove their identity with a passport or credit card before completing the check-in process via a touch screen.
Passengers can then move on to separate desks for fast bag drops to complete the entire process in a much quicker time than previously experienced.
David Lister, Edinburgh Airport customer service director, told The Scotsman that "we are always looking at new ways of improving our passengers' journeys through the airport".
"The new kiosks enable us to increase the capacity of our check-in hall as further additional flights take off from Edinburgh - this year alone 27 new services have started or are yet to start and more than nine million passengers will have used the airport."
"We expect the self-service option to prove especially popular with frequent flyers and business travellers."
"The new kiosks enable us to increase the capacity of our check-in hall as further additional flights take off at Edinburgh," he added.
The technology is currently only being used by Air France-KLM, but Flybe will adopt the kiosks later this month.
Christine Ourmieres, Air France-KLM general manager for UK and Ireland, told The Scotsman that the touch screens will "speed-up the check-in process which will save customers' time and make their journey more stress-free as a result".
Mike Rutter, Flybe chief commercial officer, told the paper that the kiosks will "undoubtedly save passengers valuable time at check-in, offering a much more streamlined customer experience that will prove especially popular with Flybe's connecting passengers".
