Aegean Airlines celebrated a successful debut launch from London Stansted last week with champagne and gifts for passengers.
Greece's fastest growing airline will run an all-year-round twice-daily service from London Stansted to the Greek capital of Athens.
Prices on the route start from £67 one-way including all taxes.
Nick Barton, strategy and solutions director at Stansted, said that the airport is now one of Europe's key hubs for direct connections.
"The twice daily link to Athens will not only offer business and leisure passengers a direct connection to the world renowned Greek capital but also offers passengers the opportunity to connect directly onto Aegean Airlines domestic network that now serves around 17 destinations across Greece," he said.
Mr Barton also predicted that the Athens routes would prove "an extremely popular link" with Stansted passengers.
Lithuanian Airlines also recently announced that it will bring on-line a direct service from London Stansted to Vilnius, which is the 2009 European Capital of Culture.
These are just two of 11 new connections planned to Stansted's European network, with other links coming to Béziers and Languedoc in France and Rimini in Italy.
Aegean Airlines presently services 12 international destinations and 17 domestic routes from its Athens base.
The operator has just renewed its fleet of 27 new Airbus A320/321, which represents the largest ever investment by a Greek operator.
