BA to create dedicated business check-in at Heathrow

BA to create dedicated business check-in at Heathrow British Airways (BA) has announced its plans to create a dedicated business-class check-in area at Heathrow's new Terminal 5 (T5).

The airline revealed its intentions while marking the 100th day since the somewhat controversial launch of the £4.3 billion London terminal.

BA executives stressed that there had been "significant gains" made at T5 to improve the problematic baggage control measures along with punctuality.

Therefore BA intends to create the specialist check-in area for its business-class customers including a new dedicated lounge.

Chief executive, Willie Walsh, revealed that "every day I get emails, letters or comments from customers telling me how much they enjoy using the terminal".

He indicated that T5 was handling 40,000 customers a day when it opened but now manages 57,000 passengers, which is expected to rise to 65,000 a day during the summer months.

Mr Walsh said that BA had "worked tirelessly to improve every aspect of our operational performance and our customers are seeing the benefits".

"Our punctuality and baggage performance levels are significantly improved on this time last year and check-in queues are much reduced.

"We know there is scope for further improvement and we are absolutely committed to achieving it. But we have made a very encouraging start to life in our new home," he added.

BA also intends to switch 29 of its long-haul routes over to T5 on September 17th with the remainder of its services switching over by October 2008.
