Air France creates one-off livery to mark 75th anniversary

Air France creates one-off livery to mark 75th anniversary Air France has celebrated its 75th anniversary by re-painting one of its planes with livery last seen over 60 years ago.The carrier has decorated an Airbus A320 with livery from 1946 and the plane will now service medium-haul flights for the next two years.

Officials from the operator have termed the plane Pays de Roissy, which refers to an association devoted to expanding the economic development of 110 communes around Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.

Francois Brousse, Air France's head of corporate communications, said: "For its 75th anniversary, Air France has chosen to highlight its rich historic and cultural heritage."

"This livery corresponds to the era when the first jet planes were introduced into the Air France fleet, and the airline's rebirth after the war, when it's network already covered five continents," she added.

The decoration includes a seahorse-style symbol which combines the head of Greek mythological horse Pegasus with the tail of the Chinese dragon Annam to symbolise the joining of Europe and the Far East.

However, the design has also been applied with environmentally-friendly paint which uses less solvent than conventional paint.

Some 540 kilos of the new-generation paint was required to cover the aircraft as part of a five-day maintenance operation which was conducted at Toulouse-Blagnac.

Air France currently operates 65 Airbus A320s which service mid-haul routes to both domestic and international destinations.
